The cooling towers

From November 2022 to June 2023, I was commissioned by the Hagedorn Unternehmensgruppe to accompany the dismantling of the installations in the two 143 m high cooling towers at the Grafenrheinfeld nuclear power plant (KKG for short).

On the evening of August 16, 2024, the two towers were finally blown up, marking another milestone in the dismantling of the power plant.

The gutting and removal of fire loads in the two cooling towers of the Grafenrheinfeld nuclear power plant (KKG) took place over several months in a systematic process. This required a considerable number of working hours and the use of a variety of machines of different sizes. Thanks to the efforts of the Hagedorn Unternehmensgruppe, the work at the KKG site was successfully completed by mid-2023.

On 16.08.2024 at 19:55, the time had come: the two cooling towers were blown up. With 1,340 electronic detonators and 260 kg of explosives, the two 143 m high towers went down within 30 seconds in a long-lasting cloud of dust. Around 55,000 tons of rubble were produced.
