Niederaichbach nuclear power plant
As of December 2017, visit to the "green meadow", former Niederaichbach nuclear power plant.
The former Niederaichbach nuclear power plant (KKN) was located in the municipality of Niederaichbach, right next to the Isar nuclear power plant (KKI for short, seen here in the background). The power plant was in operation from 1973-1974 and was dismantled from 1987-1995. It was the first nuclear power plant to be dismantled »down to a greenfield site« in Europe. Since then it has served as a small pasture for cattle. Only a stone with an inscription commemorates the former KKN.
My master's project shows photographs of the running nuclear power plant, through various dismantling phases, to final disposal and the green field.
All nuclear power plants still in operation in Germany were taken off the grid on April 15, 2023.
